March 19:  Play TBA

April 16:  Short Plays about Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings

Our 10-minute playwriting contest culminates in the staging of several scripts.  Come and see the work of our local playwrights!

WRITE YOUR OWN 10 MINUTE PLAY
How do you imagine Jefferson and Hemings’ master/slave relationship? How did Jefferson reconcile the contradictions?  Why did his children with Sally remain enslaved till his death?  Why did he free ONLY his children and never anyone else?  Let your creative juices flow and write a 10-minute play.  Submissions are due by March 1st.  We’ll select a few and stage them on April 16th at 7p.

May 21:  THE LETTERS by John W. Lowell

THE LETTERS is a 2-person play about government intimidation, censorship, and manipulation of the truth.  Another very timely and relevant work!
*We highly recommend reading Annette Gordon-Reed’s award-winning biography, The Hemingses of Monticello.
